<p>Three of the people that were injured were taken to a local hospital with lacerations. Two others were treated at the scene.</p>

<p>The <a href="mpdc.dc.gov/">Metropolitan Police Department </a>was called to the scene of an accident where a pine tree crashed onto a motorcycle ridden by Carolina Alcalde. Ms. Alcalde was riding along 15th Street NW when the tree fell on her, breaking five ribs and severing her spinal cord.</p>
<p>Ms. Alcalde was the only one on the motorcycle at the time of the accident. She has been paralyzed as a result of the accident.</p>
<p>According to the <a href="http://www.nhtsa.gov/">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a>, motorcycles are more likely to be involved in a fatal collision with a fixed object than are other vehicles. In 2008, 25 percent of the motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with fixed objects, compared to 19 percent for passenger cars, 14 percent for light trucks, and 4 percent for large trucks.</p>

<p>The <a href="mpdc.dc.gov/">Metropolitan Police Department</a> reported that Morrell Ball, 32, was charged with felony destruction of property when he drove an SUV into into an office building less than one mile from the White House Friday evening.</p>
<p>The exact location of the accident was not given, but Mr. Ball hit a building in the central business district of the city. It is not known if anyone was injured in this accident, and officials say he intentionally drove into the building. The SUV was allegedly stolen as well.</p>
<p>According to the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the<a href="http://www.nhtsa.gov/"> National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a>, driver error is responsible for more than 90 percent of serious traffic accidents.</p>
