The driver of a pickup truck was killed Friday night in an accident on Indian Hill Road at West Amarillo Boulevard according to state police.

Amarillo 27-year-old resident James Oral Selby was driving a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup south on Indian Hill when he failed to stop at the intersection. The Texas Department of Public Safety said he pulled in front of a tanker truck that was westbound on Amarillo.

The pickup caught fire and Mr. Selby died at the scene.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
