A semi caught fire along Texas State Route 289 just before 2 p.m. on Friday near Gunter according to state police.

The truck was carrying a load of gravel just south of Gunter near Foy Wallace Road when it caught fire for unknown reasons. The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that a small grass fire started as a result of the fire, but was able to be extinguished.

State police did not confirm if there were any injuries and no names were released.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency reports an estimated 258,500 highway vehicle fires occurred annually in the United States from 2004 to 2006.
