At least one person was killed Friday evening in a crash on Interstate 35W near the city of Itasca according to state police.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the highway at 4:30 p.m. when seven vehicles, among them a semi and a pickup, collided. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the accident occurred near mile marker five and 37-year-old Jacksboro resident Danny Davis died.

A total of four other people were injured, but the severity of those injuries was unknown.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
