Lovelady, Texas – June 12, 2013

State police confirmed that three people died in a fiery accident on Texas State Route 19 near the town of Lovelady.

The only identified victim of the accident was Deirdre Lester, 59, of Lovelady, who was hit by a car with a male driver and female passenger according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The other vehicle crossed the center line, causing the accident.

All three victims were declared dead at the scene when both vehicles caught fire.

According to the National Safety Council, the rate of traffic deaths rose 4 percent in 2012 to 1.23 per 100 million. The study attributed the increase, in part, to a mild winter and improved economic conditions.
