A man was killed after a rollover crash on Highway 158 Thursday afternoon.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 2:24 p.m., 29-year-old Jeffrey Monroe was driving west on the highway when for unknown reasons his pickup left the roadway before losing control and rolling several times.

Rescue personnel arrived on scene to find Mr. Monroe had been killed on impact. Mr. Monroe was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly three of every four fatal rollovers occur on a rural road with a posted speed limit of 55 mph or higher, and excessive speeding is cited as a contributory factor in about 40 percent of fatal rollovers.
