A fatal accident was investigated Monday in Galveston on Seawall Boulevard according to police.

A Chevrolet pickup was possibly involved in a previous hit-and-run according to the Galveston Police Department. Officials reported that the accident was so severe that debris was spread over the length of an entire block.

At least one person was killed in the crash while two others were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. A fire also broke out after the crash.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 68 percent of motor vehicle fatalities in 2010 were passenger vehicle occupants, 13 percent were pedestrians, 13 percent were motorcyclists, 2 percent were bicyclists, and 1 percent were occupants of large trucks.
