San Angelo, Texas – March 10, 2013
A driver was allegedly drunk in a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday night according to police.
The accident was reported at 7:32 p.m. on Christoval Road just south of Gas Plant Road according to the San Angelo Police Department. A pickup driven by 65-year-old Malcolm Guy McBurnett struck a motorcycle driven by an unidentified airman at Goodfellow Air Force Base.
Police arrested Mr. McBurnett at the scene. The unidentified rider was declared dead at the scene.
In 2008, a total of 1,347 children age 14 and younger were killed in motor vehicle crashes. Out of those 216 deaths, about half (99) were occupants of a vehicle with a driver who had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of .08 or higher according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
UPDATE: Officials identified the deceased as 28-year-old Marine Donald Di Pietro. They also stated that Mr. McBurnett’s pickup had pulled into the roadway without lights on and became disabled. Mr. Di Pietro attempted to stop to avoid a collision but was unable to.
