Miguel Ramirez, 33, was killed Thursday evening in an accident on U.S. Route 281 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Mr. Ramirez was northbound when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes for unknown reasons and hit an oncoming car according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Dilxia Morrison-Liersch, 50, of Converse was injured as the driver of the second vehicle. She was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio in critical condition.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 68 percent of motor vehicle fatalities in 2010 were passenger vehicle occupants, 13 percent were pedestrians, 13 percent were motorcyclists, 2 percent were bicyclists, and 1 percent were occupants of large trucks.
