Two paramedics were injured as they responded to a call when an SUV struck their ambulance according to the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred at the intersection of Texas State Route 71 and Texas State Route 95, and one of the paramedics was airlifted from the scene in serious condition.

The ambulance did not have any patients at the time of the crash, and the driver of the SUV was not injured. The seriously injured paramedic was airlifted to University Medical Center Brackenridge.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 68 percent of motor vehicle fatalities in 2010 were passenger vehicle occupants, 13 percent were pedestrians, 13 percent were motorcyclists, 2 percent were bicyclists, and 1 percent were occupants of large trucks.
