Michael May, 24, was killed early Saturday morning according to the San Antonio Police Department when he crashed into a utility pole on Colonnade Boulevard near Interstate 10. Police say that speed may have been a factor, causing him to lose control and go airborne before hitting the pole at 12:50 a.m.

Mr. May died Sunday at approximately 4 a.m. as a result of his injuries. It is not known if there were any passengers in his vehicle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 1.13 fatalities occurred for every 100 million miles of travel in 2009. The rate in 1966 was 5.5 deaths per 100 million miles.

Thank you for those kind remarks for my son. It’s a hard thing for me to deal with, but people like you makes it a little less painful.
