Liberty County, Texas — July 7, 2012

Police say a couple were killed and four children injured Saturday during a collision near Cleveland.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 38-year-old LaPorte resident Harold Wayne Griffin was behind the wheel of a 1991 Dodge Ram pickup truck as it traveled along Farm to Market Road 787. Around 2:20 p.m., Mr. Griffin apparently lost control.

The Ram drifted off the shoulder and struck a nearby tree. Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Griffin and his partner, 34-year-old LaPorte resident Jessica Ann Vitello.

Paramedics took 13-year-old Mikayla Griffin and a 12-year-old family friend to Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, 4-year-old Connor Griffin and 6-year-old Tyler Griffin were transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

An account has been established to help the children at Wells Fargo Bank, under the name Pam Brown in account number 8584792900. To offer additional assistance, write to brittany.sublett@yahoo.com
