Two pedestrians died after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Two Notch Road and Decker Boulevard Saturday morning.

According to the Columbia Police Department, 35-year-old Corey Trapp of Blythewood and 41-year-old Otis H. Starks of Columbia were involved in a physical altercation around 3:45 a.m. in the median when they allegedly entered the roadway and were struck by the Honda Accord driven by 39-year-old Stacey Carter of Camden.

Mr. Trapp and Mr. Starks died at the scene. Authorities believe an earlier confrontation at a local bar preceded this incident.

Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that a pedestrian dies in a U.S. traffic accident every 110 minutes and one is injured every nine minutes.
