Police say a male subject died Friday during a jet-ski crash near West Linn.

According to deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department, 38-year-old Tigard resident Michael Bailey was operating a personal watercraft on the Willamette River, near the Cedaroak launch ramp. Around 7:55 p.m., Mr. Bailey struck another personal watercraft, operated by 39-year-old Portland resident Eryk Simmons.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Simmons. His male passenger, 7, was hospitalized.

According to the United States Coast Guard, 39 people were injured and 10 were killed in 2011 during boating accidents in Oregon.
