Linn County, Oregon — August 9, 2013

Police say a motorist crashed Friday in a rural area between Blue River and Sweet Home, killing himself and injuring three passengers.

According to deputies with the Linn County Sheriff’s Department, 48-year-old Sweet Home resident Tracy Lee Moore was behind the wheel of a 1974 Ford pickup truck as it traveled west along U.S. Forest Service Road 11 near the Quartzville area. Investigators believe Mr. Moore lost control around 9:05 p.m. and smashed into a nearby slope, where it tipped onto its left side.

The impact left Mr. Moore hanging out of the window, and trapped him underneath the wreckage. Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Moore.

His three passengers were taken to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. They have been identified as 20-year-old Albany resident Octavia Freedom Lee Leach, 44-year-old Cottage Grove resident Clint Leroy Moore and 35-year-old Albany resident Jesse Leroy Moore.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is a factor in 31 percent of fatal crashes.
