Portland, Oregon — June 21, 2012
The Portland Police Department responded to a semi rollover accident on the Morrison Bridge exit from Interstate 5 on Thursday. The accident happened at the exit from southbound I-5 to the Morrison Bridge when the trailer carrying 4,000 pound bags of corn starch overturned.
The accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. and the driver complained of neck injuries. Officials believe he was driving too fast for the turn when the trailer toppled over.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
