Officials say a man  died after his bicycle was hit by a car on Wilcox Road in Port Clinton Tuesday morning.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, around 5:55 a.m., 37-year-old Dale Tusen was riding his bicycle west on Wilcox Road when a car driven by 68-year-old Michael Swint failed to see Mr. Tusen and hit the back of his bicycle.

Rescue personnel arrived on scene to find Mr. Tusen had been killed on impact.

According to authorities, the investigation is still pending and no citations have been issued yet.

In 2009, 630 pedalcyclists were killed and an additional 51,000 were injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
