Officials say a teenage motorist died in a rollover crash in Springfield Friday afternoon.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, an unidentified 18-year-old female motorist was traveling in her Chevrolet Blazer on Fairview Road around 3:10 p.m. when she left the roadway, struck a ditch, and flipped her vehicle onto its roof.

One of her passengers, 18-year-old Bethany Hackney of Oak Hill, died from her injuries. The driver and two unidentified passengers sustained minor injuries.

Charges are pending.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 681,000 people were involved in crashes with teen drivers in 2008.
