Two people were killed on Wednesday in a collision between an ambulance and a lumber truck just after 10 a.m. according the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident happened when the ambulance ran into the back of the lumber truck, causing the load of lumber to go through the front windshield.

The ambulance driver, Cody King, 21, was killed when he was struck in the head by a piece of lumber. Barbara L. McWhorter, 72, a patient being transported for a doctor’s appointment, was also killed at the scene. The exact location of the crash was not given.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 1.13 fatalities occurred for every 100 million miles of travel in 2009. The rate in 1966 was 5.5 deaths per 100 million miles.
