Delaware, Ohio – August 10, 2011

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that one person was killed Wednesday in a head-on crash on U.S. 42.

According to officials, that accident happened sometime during the morning hours and involved two vehicles. They collided near South Section Line Road, and one of them—a pickup truck—came to rest upside down.

The names of the drivers were not made available in early reports. Authorities say a medical helicopter responded to the scene to transport a seriously injured person to Ohio State University Medical Center.

Police continue their investigation, with more details to be released as they become available.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reports that over 1,000 deaths occurred as the result of crashes in 2010.

UPDATE: The deceased individual is now identified as 55-year-old Paul A. Raimonde. The other driver is listed as 24-year-old Derek J. Vanhorn.
