Mecklenburg County, North Carolina — October 3, 2012

Two motorists were hospitalized, one with critical injuries, after a school bus collision on Wilkinson Boulevard Wednesday morning.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, 21-year-old John Froneberger was traveling in his vehicle around 9:20 a.m. when he lost control and rear-ended the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools bus driven by Shera Hubert. The impact caused Mr. Froneberger’s to slide underneath the bus.

Mr. Froneberger was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Ms. Hubert was hospitalized with minor injuries. There were no students on the bus at the time of the crash.

Mr. Froneberger’s vehicle was totaled in the collision.

Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported every year, making them the most common type of automobile accident.
