A motorist faces multiple charges after causing a four-vehicle collision on North Fisher Street Thursday morning.

According to the Burlington Police Department, 20-year-old Ashley Hinton was traveling westbound in her 1998 Toyota Sienna minivan around 2:45 a.m. when she lost control and rear-ended another vehicle which, in turned, caused a four-vehicle chain reaction crash. Ms. Hinton fled the scene and struck a fifth vehicle.

It is unknown how many victims were involved or the extent of their injuries. Their identities have not yet been released.

Ms. Hinton faces multiple charges including failure to reduce speed, hit-and-run, and driving while impaired.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol-impaired motor vehicle crashes cost more than an estimated $37 billion annually.
