Wake County, North Carolina – June 5, 2012
Two motorists were hospitalized, including one with critical injuries, after a wreck on Interstate 40 Tuesday morning.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, an unidentified motorist was traveling in his vehicle around 5:20 a.m. when he crashed for unknown reasons. Two motorists, though it is not clear if one was the driver or not, were hospitalized, one with life-threatening injuries.
It is not known how much damage the vehicle sustained during the crash or whether it struck any fixed objects.
Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
UPDATE: The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 33-year-old Louis Henry Pittman, Jr. He is being charged with driving while impaired. His passenger has been identified as 40-year-old Kendell Christopher Jones.
