Beaufort County, North Carolina — January 23, 2012

Police say a teenage pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed in Beaufort County on Monday night.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Washington resident Herman Windley was driving a 2003 Chrysler minivan along North Carolina Highway 32 (River Road). As he approached Magnolia Road, around 11:25 p.m., Mr. Windley struck Washington resident Aaron Spruill, 17, who was on foot.

Paramedics rushed Aaron to Beaufort County Hospital, but doctors there were unable to save him.

Investigators say Aaron was clad in dark-colored clothing at the time. Mr. Windley has not been charged with a criminal offense.
