Bayport, New York – July 7, 2012
Police say a pilot crash-landed Saturday in the Bayport area, with himself and another person on board.
According to officers with the Suffolk County Police Department, the unidentified male was at the controls of the small airplane when it took off from Bayport Aerodome, located at 600 Third Avenue, near the intersection of Nicholls Road and Sunrise Highway.
Investigators believe the pilot encountered turbulence immediately after taking off, around 2:25 p.m., and decided to land again. During the sudden stop, the plane tipped forward and overturned.
The man and his female passenger apparently escaped unhurt.
