Levi Maestas Gonzales was killed when the black Ford Escort he was riding in as a passenger was hit by a Ford Expedition driven by Benito Bobadilla Adriano, 47, of Española. The New Mexico State Police stated that Naomi Gonzales, 39,  failed to stop, resulting in Mr. Adriano hitting the Escort on Mr. Gonzales’ side of the vehicle. Mrs. Gonzales was attempting to turn onto U.S. Route 64/84 off of County Road 161.

The driver of the Escort, Mr. Gonzales’ wife Naomi was cited for failing to regard a stop sign.

Mr. Adriano was not injured in the accident. The accident occurred at 10:28 a.m.

The New Mexico Department of Public Safety reports that failure to yield played a part in 8.4 percent of traffic accidents in 2008.
