Douglas County, Nevada — July 31, 2011
Police say a motorist has been arrested after allegedly striking his girlfriend with his vehicle on Sunday.
According to deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Holbrook resident Neil Dettorre, 42, was operating a Ford Ranger pickup truck at the residence of his unidentified girlfriend, 50. Investigators say Mr. Dettorre collided with a tool cart and also struck the woman in her left leg.
He reportedly left the accident scene.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in a 30-mph zone faces three times the risk of fatal as a pedestrian walking in a 25-mph zone.
UPDATE: Mr. Dettorre has been arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident and battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $3,000 bail and is set to appear in court on October 19.
