A man  died after being hit by a car on U.S. Route 67 by Missouri 222 Friday night.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, around 11 p.m., 61-year-old Arthur Laird was driving a  Kia Sorrento south on U.S. 67 when pedestrian, 39-year-old Brian Johnson was walking north on the shoulder of the roadway and Mr. Laird failed to see Mr. Johnson before hitting him.

Rescue peronnel arrived on scene to find Mr. Johnson had been killed on impact.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that a pedestrian dies in a U.S. traffic accident every 110 minutes and one is injured every nine minutes.
