A woman was hurt after a van and a semi collided on U.S. Route 61 at Interstate 70 Friday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, around 3:30 p.m., 29-year-old Cody Sanders was driving a semi west on Interstate 70 when he attempted to merge onto Route 61 when he failed to see a Dodge Caravan driven by 69-year-old Patricia Larowe merging in front of him.

Ms. Larowe was taken to St. Joseph Health Center with moderate injuries. According to reports, Mr. Sanders was not hurt in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
