Three people were hospitalized after two vehicles collided on Missouri Route 14 near Nixa Thursday night.

According Missouri State Highway Patrol ,23-year-old Derek Collier was driving a Pontiac Sunfire east on Route 14 when for unknown reasons, he left the roadway.  The Pontiac then traveled into the oncoming traffic lane where he hit a Subaru Outback driven by 73-year-old Thomas Trosper.

Mr. Collier, Mr. Trosper and his passenger , 71-year-old Barbara Trosper were taken to Cox South Hospital with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, head-on crashes were only 2 percent of all crashes in 2005, but accounted for 10 percent of U.S. fatal crashes.
