A teen was injured  after a vehicle and a semi collided on Highway 71  Sunday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, around 6:13 a.m. , 18-year-old Alondra Martinez-Olvera was driving north on Highway 71 when her spun out before slamming into the back of a semi driven by 62-year-old Michael Oliver. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Ms. Martinez-Olvera sustained some minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported every year, making them the most common type of automobile accident.
