Kennett, Missouri – August 3, 2012
Friday, at about 9:20 a.m., a crash that killed two children and injured four others occurred on Missouri State Highway 153 north of Kennett.
Missouri State Highway Patrol officials say that Jamie K. Vires, 28, from Portageville, was driving west in a 2011 Nissan Sentra when the accident took place. Police say she pulled out in front of Brandi L. Palmer, 37, from Rector, Arkansas, who was driving a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country, causing a collision between the two.
Ms. Vires was injured and flown to Barnes Jewish Hospital. Her passenger Braelyn R. Vires, 1, from Portageville, was flown to Children’s Hospital. Her other two passengers, Brooklyn L. Scott, 6, and Brittlynn Scott, 9, from Portageville, were killed in the wreck.
Ms. Plamer and her passengers, Logan N. Hollis, 16, from Kennett, Brandon A. Palmer, 8, and Michael A. Palmer, from Rector, Arkansas, were injured. They took themselves to a local hospital.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008 more than 2.3 million reported intersection-related crashes, resulted in more than 7,770 fatalities and approximately 733,000 injuries.
