According to police, a pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle in the Caruthersville area.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 34-year-old Caruthersville resident William J. Watkins was driving a 2008 GMC Sierra along Carroll Avenue. As Mr. Watkins approached 16th Street, the vehicle reportedly struck 40-year-old Caruthersville resident Krissie K. Payne.
Paramedics airlifted Ms. Payne to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She was apparently trying to stop Mr. Watkins at the time of the crash.
