Phelps County, Missouri – July 24, 2011

An accident on Interstate 44 Sunday evening injured a man and two 10-year-olds from Chesterfield.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 44-year-old Paul R. Estes drove a 2008 GMC Acadia east on Interstate 44 in Rolla. About 5:15 p.m. Mr. Estes lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and rolled.

Mr. Estes’s son Jack A. Estes, 10, and Justin P. Congiu, 10, were in the vehicle with Mr. Estes at the time of the crash. All three suffered minor injuries and were taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla for treatment.

The exact location of this accident has not been released.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration‘s National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study found that driver error was the primary cause of 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
