Henry County, Missouri – July 20, 2011

A Clinton man was injured in an attempt to pass vehicles on Missouri Route 18 Wednesday morning.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department reports, 29-year-old Clinton resident Bobby G. Jones drove a 2003 Toyota west on Missouri Route 18. He made an attempt to pass two vehicles in front of him.

Around 8 a.m. 41-year-old Lee’s Summit resident Matthew M. Ringgold in a 2000 Kenworth semi made a left turn from westbound Missouri Route 18 onto Southwest 901 Road. Mr. Jones crashed into the semi.

Mr. Jones was taken to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
