Ripley County, Missouri – July 19, 2011
A three-vehicle collision including a semi on Tuesday morning seriously injured one motorist.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, east of Fairdealing James D. Adams, 48, of Naylor drove a 2002 Pontiac east on U.S. Route 160. Mr. Adams turned left into the path of a westbound 2010 Peterbilt driven by Daniel W. Baker, 22, of Poplar Bluff. The semi smashed into the Pontiac about 7:20 a.m. The Pontiac then hit a 1999 Ford driven by James P. Rice, 22, of Poplar Bluff which had stopped in a parking lot.
Mr. Adams sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The exact location of this accident has not been released.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
