New Madrid County, Missouri – July 18, 2011
A crash between an all-terrain vehicle and a car killed an 8-year-old boy Monday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jacob Harris of Portageville rode a Yamaha all-terrain vehicle east on a field road toward County Road 417 south of Missouri Route 162. About 1:25 p.m. he pulled into the path of a 2011 GMC driven by Amos M. French, 60, of Portageville. The GMC hit the ATV.
Jacob was declared dead at the scene.
The exact location of this accident has not been released.
According to atvsafety.gov there were approximately 131,900 ATV-related injuries treated in emergency rooms in 2009. There were 376 reported deaths caused by ATV accidents in 2009
