Two people were seriously injured on Friday in an all-terrain vehicle wreck near Bunker, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Brian Caloia, 22, of Imperial, was driving a Yamaha ATV on County Road 854, east of Bunker, with Heather Michalik, 19, also of Imperial, as a passenger. Around 11:45 p.m. Friday the ATV went off the roadway, hit an embankment and both occupants were thrown from the vehicle, troopers said.
Mr. Caloia was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis for treatment of serious injuries. Ms. Michalik was taken to Iron County Hospital in Ironton for treatment of serious injuries.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37,786 traffic accidents in 2009 resulted in death or personal injury.
