Brighton, Michigan — May 2, 2012
William Gholston and Lawrence Thomas, two football players at Michigan State University, were slightly injured on Wednesday in a rollover crash on Interstate 96 near Spencer Road.
The Michigan State Police stated that the accident occurred at 3:40 p.m. when another vehicle attempted to change lanes in front of another driver who was driving a four-door Hyundai sedan. That driver lost control of her vehicle, colliding with Mr. Gholston’s Chevrolet SUV.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 85 percent of adults use safety belts, compared to only 81 percent of travelers in 2002. Overall, seat belt use has risen dramatically since 1982 when the usage rate was only 11 percent.
