Detroit, Michigan — February 12, 2012

An unidentified Detroit woman was seriously injured on Sunday morning after the car she was riding in struck a utility pole. No names were given in the accident, but Redford Township Police say that the 22-year old driver lost control, possibly due to weather, and hit a pole on Telegraph Road near Plymouth Road.

A 21-year old female passenger was injured and is in critical condition according to authorities. The driver did not suffer any injuries and another 18-year old passenger had minor injuries.

According to the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, driver error is responsible for more than 90 percent of serious traffic accidents.
