Adrian, Michigan — January 24, 2011
Two workers were injured and classes at Adrian schools were delayed Monday after an early-morning toxic leak at an East Michigan Street chemical plant, Lenawee County officials have reported.
The liquid bromine leak at the Chemtura Corporation, 1400 East Michigan Street, was first discovered by an employee about 5:30 a.m., the Adrian Fire Department reports.
Company officials then evacuated the plant and alerted public safety authorities, leading to an hour-long delay to be affected for the Adrian Public Schools, a report shows.
Company officials declined to identify the two injured employees, but said they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at an unidentified area hospital.
The Chemtura Corporation manufactures plastics, according to the Cortera online business directory.
