Custer Township, Michigan — January 21, 2011

A 63-year-old Fountain woman was killed Friday in Custer Township. She had been riding in the passenger seat of a sport-utility vehicle that was hit by a pickup truck trying to make a left from U.S. Route 10 eastbound onto Schoenherr Road, a police report shows.

Kay Gajeski, who retired in 2010 from the Ludington Fifth/Third Bank after 29 years, died in the 7 p.m. crash, the Michigan State Police reported.

Anthony Gajeski, 65, of Fountain, had been driving the Nissan Murano in which Ms. Gajeski was riding, and sustained minor injuries in the wreck, police report. The occupants of the pickup–Richard Stepka, 22, and Martin Nash, 21, both of Ludington–also suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, then released.

Troopers believe that all involved were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is not a suspected cause.
