Detroit, Michigan – July 28, 2010
Michigan State Police responded to early morning reports of a man jumping from an overpass onto the freeway, and were dispatched to a stretch of road between 6 Mile and 7 mile.
After arriving at the accident scene, authorities learned that Edward Debarge, was struck by a semi-truck on Southfield Freeway (M-39) while his vehicle was stopped on the shoulder.
There were witnesses who approached police to say that it appeared Mr. Debarge was standing along beside his truck when he abruptly walked out into the right lane of traffic with his arms raised in the air.
The semi-truck driver did not have enough time to avoid Mr. Debarge and struck him, leaving him with traumatic injuries.
Ambulance crews transported Mr. Debarge to Sinai-Grace Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
