State police in Wareham stated that a pedestrian was killed on Cranberry Highway Wednesday night.

An unidentified woman was attempting to cross the highway when a Jeep hit her as she was walking in the area of the Liquor Locker on Massachusetts State Route 28. The Massachusetts State Police stated that the accident happened at 8:30 p.m.

Wareham 22-year-old Eric Crowley was eastbound when he struck the woman, who died at the scene.

Two people on a motorcycle were killed Monday morning in and accident at 1210 Columbia Road at 1:30 a.m. The Boston Police Department stated that the female passenger was declared dead at the scene, while the male passenger was taken to Boston Medical Center where he died.

No names were given in this accident. It is not known if any other vehicles were involved in this crash. An official cause in this accident has not been given.

In 2008, motorcyclists accounted for 14 percent of total traffic fatalities, 17 percent  of all occupant fatalities, and 4 percent of all occupants injured according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A four-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was partially ejected from a car in a crash in Interstate 93 in the Tip O’Neill Tunnel. The Massachusetts State Police stated that a 1997 Toyota Fourrunner was traveling northbound in the middle lane at 12:24 a.m. when it swerved to avoid a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu that merged into its lane.

The driver of the SUV lost control and rolled over, landing on the driver’s side. The Malibu then hit a concrete barrier in the far left lane. The Four-year-old and another woman who was ejected were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries. A total of five people in the Fourrunner were injured while the 29-year old female driver of the Malibu was also taken to a hospital.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.

Carolyn Rogers, 44, is facing charges after crashing into the rear of a Massachusetts State Police cruiser on Interstate 93. The accident happened at 12:30 a.m. Friday in the Boston suburb of Stoneham north of the city.

The state police trooper suffered neck and back injuries in the crash, but was later released from the hospital. Officials believes that Ms. Rogers had been drinking pryor to the accident.

According to a study done by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, one in ten drivers reported having driven when they thought that their alcohol level might have been close to or possibly over the legal limit within the past 12 months, and just over half of those (5.5 percent of all drivers) reported having done this more than once within the past 12 months.

A Middlesex Sheriff’s Department Deputy was killed in an accident during his shift on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred at 3:07 a.m. at 214 Treble Cove Road, and the deputy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eddie Dillon III, 27, was killed in the accident, which was ruled as a single-car accident. A cause for the crash was not released by authorities. No other information was available in this crash.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 68 percent of motor vehicle fatalities in 2010 were passenger vehicle occupants, 13 percent were pedestrians, 13 percent were motorcyclists, 2 percent were bicyclists, and 1 percent were occupants of large trucks.

The Boston Police Department stated that 15 people were injured in a bus accident on Monday on the set of the Sandra Bullock movie The Heat. The accident happened in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and involved a bus hitting a truck associated with the movie.

The bus was a City bus that hit a parked production truck. No names were given in the accident and the injuries were deemed to be minor.

Since 2000, 130 school-age pedestrians (younger than 19) have died in school transportation-related crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Over two-thirds (67%) were struck by school buses, 6 percent by vehicles functioning as school buses, and 27 percent by other vehicles involved in the crashes.

The Massachusetts State Police was called to the scene of a boat collision in Boston Harbor. The accident happened at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, and it is not known if anyone was injured on the charter boat.

Officials say that a boat from Boston’s Best Cruises was the crash. They said that the Island Adventure backed into a private boat that was docked, causing one person to be taken away in an ambulance with a leg injury.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hypothermia occurs when the body’s core temperature drops below 95 degrees Fahrenheit and is the cause of around 600 deaths per year in the United States.

Gail Wentworth, 61, is in critical condition after a Sunday accident involving a motorcycle and a van according to the Foxboro Police Department. Ms. Wentworth was a passenger on a motorcycle with her husband, George, 62, when they were riding on Central Street and Leonard Street at 4:15 p.m.

Adam Cobb, 24, was driving the van that hit them and he stated he did not see them as he crossed Central. Mr. Wentworth was declared dead at the scene, while Mrs. Wentworth was in a medically induced coma.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, per vehicle mile traveled in 2007, motorcyclists were about 37 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a motor vehicle traffic crash and 9 times more likely to be injured.

The Boston Police Department was called to the scene of a fatal accident on Sunday on Massachusetts State Route 138 in the suburb of Canton. Auricelli Braga, 32, was driving a black Nissan when she hit a vehicle driven by Sara Escudero, 64, at 5:45 a.m.

Ms. Escudero was killed as a result of the accident, and Ms. Braga was also hospitalized due to her injuries. No further details were released in this accident and police did not give a cause.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 1.13 fatalities occurred for every 100 million miles of travel in 2009. The rate in 1966 was 5.5 deaths per 100 million miles.

The Boston Police Department stated that Vail Cerullo, 20, was killed on Monday in a motorcycle accident on the Massachusetts Avenue bridge between Boston and Cambridge. The accident occurred at 2:25 p.m. when Mr. Cerullo hit a pickup truck driven by an 18-year old.

Mr. Cerullo was thrown off the motorcycle into the roadway, where he was also run over by an SUV. He was declared dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. Officials stated that the man in the pickup truck made an improper turn into the path of the motorcycle.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration4,778 people were killed in collisions involving motorcycles in 2006.
