Aroostook County, Maine – June 26, 2012
Two motorists were hospitalized with minor injuries after a three vehicle collision on Sweden Street Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Caribou Police Department, 41-year-old Stephen Bouchard of Frenchville was traveling southbound in his semi around 2:20 p.m. when he failed to decelerate and rear-ended the 2007 GMC pickup truck driven by 72-year-old Larry Lavalle of Caribou. The impact caused the pickup truck to leave the roadway and strike an unoccupied 1998 Honda parked nearby.
Mr. Lavalle and his passenger, an unidentified child, were transported to Cary Medical Center and later released. Mr. Bouchard was not hurt.
The pickup truck and the Honda were totaled in the crash.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010.
