Lincoln County, Maine – June 17, 2012
Two motorists escaped serious injury after a two vehicle collision on Bog Road Sunday.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Emily A. Cowing of Wiscasset was traveling in reverse in her 2007 Hyundai Elantra out of a private driveway when she failed to yield and pulled into the path of 2002 Chevrolet driven by 54-year-old Michael W. Coombs of Alna. To avoid rear-ending Ms. Cowing’s vehicle, Mr. Coombs swerved left and crashed into a ditch.
It is unclear if Ms. Cowing or Mr. Coombs sustained any injuries in the wreck. No one else was involved in the crash.
Officials are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
