Lincoln County, Maine – June 16, 2012
A motorist escaped serious injury after crashing her vehicle into the Atlantic Ocean off Coveside Road Saturday.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Carisa M. Salerno of South Bristol was traveling westbound in her 1998 Volvo when she swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, left the roadway, and traveled down beneath a dock into the ocean.
Ms. Salerno sustained minor injuries. No one else was involved in the crash.
Officials are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
