At least one motorist was critically injured after a collision on Maine State Route 17 Sunday evening.

According to the Rockport Police Department, 52-year-old Barry Rogers of Rockland was traveling westbound in his 1988 Toyota pickup truck around 8:20 p.m. when he collided with an unknown vehicle.

Mr. Rogers was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. It is not known how many other victims were involved or the extent of their injuries.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
