Hancock County, Maine – June 23, 2012
A motorcyclist died after crashing his motorcycle on Maine State Route 3 Saturday.
According to the Mount Desert Police Department, 36-year-old James Corbett was traveling on his 2007 Honda motorcycle around 12:10 a.m. when he lost control in a curve, left the roadway, and struck a curb.
Mr. Corbett died at the scene from his injuries. No one else was involved in the crash.
Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, per vehicle mile traveled in 2007, motorcyclists were about 37 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a motor vehicle traffic crash and 9 times more likely to be injured.
