Cumberland County, Maine – June 23, 2012
One motorist died and other motorists were possibly injured in a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Maine State Route 1 and Johnson Road Saturday.
According to the Falmouth Police Department, two unidentified drivers in two unknown vehicles crashed around 9:15 a.m. It is unknown what caused the vehicles to crash. It is unclear how many victims were involved or the extent of their injuries.
One passenger, 80-year-old Glenise Hutchins, was transported to Maine Medical Center, but later died of her injuries.
Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
In 2008, there were a total of 37,261 traffic fatalities in the United States according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
UPDATE: 17-year-old Ian Philbrick of North Yarmouth has been identified as the driver of a Honda Pilot that failed to yield and collided with the 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by 68-year-old Albert Anderson. Ms. Hutchins was Mr. Anderson’s girlfriend and a passenger in his vehicle.
